TRAFFIC RULES IN BAHRAIN

Speed limits

Adhere to the following speed limits in Bahrain:

• City areas: 60 kph (37 mph)
• Outside city areas: 80–100 kph (50–62 mph)
• Highways: 120 kph (75 mph)

Traffic signals

Bahrain employs a unique traffic signal system featuring a flashing green light that transitions to yellow and then red. This system gives drivers sufficient warning to slow down safely, improving road safety and reducing accidents. Turning right on a red light is not permitted under Bahraini traffic laws.

Alcohol and driving

Bahrain enforces a zero-tolerance policy for driving under the influence of alcohol. Penalties for violations are severe and include fines ranging from BHD 500 ($1350) to BHD 1,000 ($2700) and imprisonment for one month to one year.

Seat belts

Both drivers and front-seat passengers must wear seat belts in Bahrain. While not legally required for rear passengers, it is strongly recommended that everyone wears a seat belt for safety.
